ST. LOUIS LIONS WOMEN TO KICK OFF FIRST WPSL SEASON SUNDAY!
Article By Joe Lyons St. Louis Post-Dispatch -
The St. Louis Lions had been making plans to join the Women’s Premier Soccer League at some point. But probably not this season.
Then came a call from Lindsay Kennedy-Eversmeyer, the owner, general manager and head coach of Fire and Ice Soccer Club. Fire and Ice, which plays its home games at Althoff High in Belleville, won the WPSL title last summer.
“We got the call from Lindsay letting us know that a team had dropped out and that there was an opportunity to join the WPSL if we were interested,” Lions women’s coach Geoff Lorimier recalled. “We’d talked about adding a women’s team but figured we were at least a year away. But we took the idea to Tony (Glavin, head technical director for the Lions and the Tony Glavin Soccer Club based in St. Charles County). Once we got the go-ahead, it’s been crazy, but we’re extremely excited to get started.”
