(COTTLEVILLE, MO) St. Louis Lions’ WPSL added a solo point to their column in their inaugural season of the Women’s Premier Soccer League with Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Kansas City Athletics Pride at the Tony Glavin Soccer Complex.

The stalemate, which resulted in the fourth straight match that points were achieved, pushed the Lions’ record to 1-1-3 for six points and retention of third place in the Heartland Conference.

KC Pride were handed a 2-1 loss by conference leaders Fire & Ice SC (3-0-1, 10 points) Saturday night and Sunday’s draw keeps them in second place (3-1-1, 10 points).

Trailing 1-0 thirty minutes in, the Lions tied the match with Maddie Pokorny’s second goal of the season.

The score remained deadlocked at intermission.

At the 81st minute, St. Louis grabbed their first lead of the afternoon with Christina Rodriguez’s first goal of the season.

Five minutes later, the Pride tied the score 2-2 and snatched precious points away from the Lions with the inevitable draw.

Lions WPSL returns to the Cottleville pitch Sunday, June 23 for a 2 p.m. meeting with conference foe KC Courage.

Tickets are $10 apiece for adults and $5 for children ages 6-18.
